The COVID-19 state of emergency has affected the arts community in drastic ways, as arts organizations and artists of all genres have lost performance dates, exhibits openings, gallery resources, and more. The Maryland State Arts Council has been active and progressive in attending to the needs of the state’s artists and arts organizations, and is offering online assistance to all those who find themselves in uncharted territory. To explore those resources, please go to and click on the link titled “MSAC COVID-19 State of Emergency Statement and Resources.”

The personnel of the Garrett County Arts Council and the Arts & Entertainment Districts of Grantsville and Oakland have continued to work (remotely) and are striving to adjust to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation. Online events and sharing opportunities are being created and will be uploaded soon. Information will be passed along as it becomes available.

It is our hope that the arts community will not only survive this unprecedented time in history, but will grow in unexpected ways during this period of seclusion and difficulty. We encourage our community to stay well and safe, and to find inspiration wherever it may lie. The arts will survive, and they in turn will help us survive, just as they always have.
