Arts & Entertainment District Coordinator

Classification: Full-Time, salaried position requiring some weekend and evening hours (average 30/hrs week).
Location: Work week is split between 108 S. 2nd Street, Oakland, MD 21550 and 146 Casselman Road, Grantsville 21563
Reports to: Garrett County Arts Council Executive Director

Description: The Arts & Entertainment (A&E) District Coordinator is responsible for the general oversight and day-to-day operations of both the Grantsville and Oakland Arts & Entertainment Districts. This position includes administrative and financial responsibilities, event management, marketing, promotion and outreach, and collaborative grants and fundraising.

The Coordinator serves under the direction of the GCAC Executive Director, and Grantsville and Oakland Mayors

Tasks Performed:

  • Creation, execution, and marketing of programs, events and activities within the Arts & Entertainment Districts to achieve goals outlined in the Districts’ strategic plans.
  • Coordination of communications and outreach with the general public, government, media, arts community and other stakeholders.
  • Execution of fundraising and grant-seeking plans of action.
  • Perform all administrative and financial aspects of the operation as required by the Garrett County Arts Council, Arts & Entertainment Districts, Maryland State Arts Council, and Maryland Department of Commerce.
  • Performs other tasks as required to assist GCAC in implementing the policy, procedures, programs, and projects of the A&E District’s gallery spaces (The Gallery Shop/The Gallery Shop, Too), and $MART ART Spaces.

Job Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in arts administration, an arts discipline (visual art, music, dance, theatre, literary arts or culinary arts), or marketing.
    • Work Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in administrative staff, event coordination or professional work.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and stay organized. Strong candidate can keep track of multiple projects, deadlines, and details simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to think critically and troubleshoot unexpected issues that arise during project coordination.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources for programs and events.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and lift at least 30 lbs.
  • Some regional and state-wide travel for professional development opportunities may be required.

Compensation: $29,120-$43,986 salary range; with Health Insurance and 401K Retirement Benefits

Artist Ambassador

The Garrett County Arts Council Gallery Shop

Job Title: Artist Ambassador
Classification: Part-Time (average 10 hours/week)
Location: 108 S. 2nd St., Oakland, MD 21550
Reports to: Visual Arts Manager

Description: The Artist Ambassador is responsible for representing the Garrett County Arts Council (GCAC) and participating artists to the public and for facilitating and conducting sales transactions on their behalf at either The Gallery Shop (Oakland) and The Gallery Shop, Too at Grants Mercantile (Grantsville).

Tasks Performed:

  1. Acts as an art gallery sales associate and public relations agent on behalf of GCAC and gallery artists and artisans.
  2. Greets gallery visitors and engages visitors in conversation.
  3. Facilitates and conducts sales transactions using the Clover P.O.S. system.
  4. Responds to public inquiries for information pertaining to GCAC and The Gallery Shop/The Gallery Shop, Too activities, GCAC’s purpose and non-profit status, participating artists/artisans, and about community nonprofit arts activities.
  5. Assists with submission and exchange of artwork.
  6. Records new and returned artwork on the corresponding inventory sheet in clear handwriting.
  7. Labels artwork with the corresponding labels once it is inputted into the system.
  8. Maintains current and accurate sales records.
  9. Assists with GCAC and gallery mailings.
  10. Assists in maintaining the overall cleanliness and appearance of The Gallery Shop and/or The Gallery Shop, Too.
  11. Organizes displays for new artwork and seasonal artwork.
  12. Performs other tasks as required to assist the Executive Director in implementing the policy, procedures, programs, and projects GCAC and The Gallery Shop/The Gallery Shop, Too.

Job Qualifications:

  1. At least 16 years of age.
  2. Proficiency in the English language.
  3. Ability to stand, sit, and lift at least 30lbs.

  • Public relations and personal relationship skills characterized by maturity, friendliness, creativity, enterprise, initiative, commitment, courtesy, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • General knowledge and appreciation of the arts.
  • Excellent telephone and record keeping skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently, to establish priorities, and to conduct multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Creativity to organize displays.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Compensation: $15.00-$15.60/hour
