George Frideric Handel’s first oratorio: “Esther”

The Mountainside Baroque 2026-2027 Season will open with a gala performance of George Frideric Handel’s first oratorio, Esther, a large-scale musical narrative about an historical Jewish heroine that covers themes of courage, self-acceptance, ambition, justice, and power. Written for singer soloists, choir and a full orchestra of strings, oboe, bassoon, horns, trumpet and harp. Mountainside Baroque will recreate this oratorio, written for singer soloists, choir and a full orchestra of strings, oboe, bassoon, horns, trumpet and harp, with replicas of historical instruments, including natural horns and trumpet (no valves) and early harp. The performance will be conducted by Mountainside Co-Artistic Director, Dr. Lyle Nordstrom.
